 Pyestock CC Vs Warfield CC

Sunday 10th June 2012

Weather Conditions: Overcast with patchy drizzle

Pitch Conditions: Wicket: Green, Outfield: Long, Slow.

Pyestock took to the field against Warfield CC in this encounter fully expecting a stern test with several players from previous weeks missing to face an opposition that always give them a tough game.

What followed however did not follow any sort of pre-written script as the visitors simply fell apart when faced with a ferocious opening stint by Captain Neil Butler.

The long standing skipper simply smashed his way through the entire order with a brutal spell of straight, in-swinging deliveries that Warfield simply had no answer for and in the process made a mockery of the clubs bowling record that has stood for exactly 50 years.

No one left at the club can remember Geoff Biggs assault on Ash Cricket Club way back in 1962 in which he took 9 for 11, but the 11 Pyestock players will surely not forget this match in a hurry as Neil ran riot.

Taking to the field, pyestock started tightly, with only 2 runs coming from the first 2 overs, Neil then removed Torry to start the destruction. A short period of consolidation was attempted by the visitors but as soon as Jabalayan and Taylor were removed in the captains 4th over, with the score only on 9, the scene was set.

A sharp catch by stand-in wicket-keeper Dan Heath removed the stubborn Dobierski to give brother Chris Heath his solitary wicket of the day, but from this point on it was all about the man operating at the other end.

His next 4 overs consisted of 6 wickets conceding only 3 runs to return figures of 8 overs, 3 maidens, 9 wickets for just 6 runs. Eight of the nine wickets were bowled with the other LBW, to give further acclaim to the consistency displayed in arguably one of the best spells seen in Pyestock history.

Warfield had scored 21, and understandably looked despondent as the took to the field in defence. To their full credit however they attacked the Pyestock openers and managed to dismiss Jon Ford, bowled by Morris for 2. Morris, admirably, finishing the match without conceding a run.

Chris McGovern and debutant Kevin McCafferty took the hosts home however for a surprisingly comfortable 9 wicket win.

A tougher prospect will however be faced in 7 days time as Pyestock make the trip to Old Woking.
